The Envelope Is What Keeps the Weather Out
Burj Enterprises is a building envelope contractor in Whistler and the Sea to Sky corridor. The building envelope is everything between the inside of your building and the weather: cladding, roofing, soffits, flashing, windows, doors, decks and entries. At this snow load and this rainfall, it is the part of the building that gets tested hardest.
Our supervisors and foremen stay current on the exterior building envelope changes and regulations under the BC Building Code. That is not paperwork. Envelope requirements in this province have moved considerably, and a detail that passed a decade ago is not necessarily a detail that passes or performs now.
What the Work Covers
- Cladding and siding. Timber, shingle, panel and mixed claddings, including full re cladding of an existing building.
- Rooflines and soffits. The geometry that decides where snow and water go, and the soffit and venting detail behind it.
- Flashing and water management. The details that do the actual work, and the ones most often done badly.
- Decks, entries and covered outdoor space. The parts of the envelope people stand on and walk through.
- Windows and doors. Replacement and reintegration into the wall assembly.
Why It Matters More Here
Whistler gets heavy snow and a great deal of rain, and the two do different kinds of damage. Snow load sits on a roof for months and demands geometry that sheds rather than traps. Rain finds every unsealed joint and every reversed lap. An envelope that was detailed for a milder climate will leak here, and by the time it shows on the inside the damage in the wall assembly is usually well advanced.
New Builds and Existing Buildings
On a new build we detail the envelope as part of the structure. On an existing building the work is usually remedial: a re clad, a roofline correction, new decks and entries, or repairs to a wall assembly that has started letting water in. We work on both, on houses, on commercial buildings and on strata properties.

What is a building envelope?
Everything separating the inside of your building from the weather: cladding, roofing, soffits, flashing, windows, doors, and the decks and entries attached to it. It is the assembly that keeps water and heat where they belong.
How do I know my envelope is failing?
Common signs are staining or swelling at the base of walls, paint or cladding lifting, water marks on interior finishes near windows, ice damming at the roof edge, and soft or spongy deck boards. By the time it is visible inside, the wall assembly usually needs opening up.
Do you do full re cladding on an existing building?
Yes. Re cladding, roofline correction and remedial envelope work on existing houses, commercial buildings and strata properties is a large part of what we do.
